Transparency
In our discussions with clients and candidates the topic of “transparency” will normally always come up. Many clients will cite this as part of their company culture and hence a quality we should look for in candidates we consider. Interestingly, but possibly not surprisingly, this comes up more often with smaller and privately owned companies than from larger publicly held companies. As a professional recruiting firm working for and representing our clients there is a challenge of balancing the need for both privacy and transparency. An October 2014 Harvard Business Review article, The Transparency Trap by Ethan Bernstein, a HBS professor, focused on the value of balancing privacy and transparency and the impact of transparency on organizational performance - to include some of the unintended consequences.
